Classic Øyo hiking axe with Viking design giving both cutting power and carry-friendly performance.
We have put the Øyo Hiking Axe through camp chores and wood-prep work. It is a fixed-blade axe, head steel (forged steel with approx Rockwell 54-57 HRC in similar Øyo Viking models), one key spec: total length ~330 mm, weight ~500-530 g. We trust Øyo’s tradition in axe-making for solid tools that hold edge.
This axe delivers chopping ability on small trees, firewood splitting and trail tasks while still being compact enough to carry. It is strong, but heavy for ultralight setups and requires regular care to maintain the edge and wood handle.
I have used one in early spring when I needed to clear branches and split kindling in wet weather.

Description
I have carried and used a Øyo Hiking/Viking style axe on many trail camps. The head is forged steel with good hardness (≈ 54-57 HRC) which means it holds a sharp edge but is still workable for sharpening in the field. The handle is made of ash wood, nicely shaped for grip and swing. The total length of ≈ 330 mm gives good leverage without being too bulky to pack. Weight around 500-530 g strikes a balance between heft for chopping and portability.
The axe comes with a felt or leather sheath (guard) to protect the edge and prevent accidents in a pack. I take care to dry it after wet use and oil the handle occasionally to prevent the wood from drying out and avoiding cracks. The steel should be kept clean to avoid corrosion.
If you want an axe that feels traditional and performs well for firewood, trail clearing, or bushcraft, this is a reliable choice. Because supplies sometimes run low, ordering early is smart.
