I took the Helle Sigmund out on several hiking and fishing trips to put it through real tasks. The three-layer laminated steel offers a good balance of edge retention and corrosion resistance and it is quite easy to sharpen in the field. The blade length of 107 mm gives good control whilst the 214 mm total length makes it reach comfortably when needed. The 94 g weight makes it light enough to carry without fatigue but solid enough for robust cuts.
The curly birch handle feels smooth and warm in wet or cold conditions and gives a secure grip even when handling slippery game. The leather sheath is both attractive and functional, protecting the blade safely. Like all leather, it benefits from occasional treatment to avoid drying or cracking.
I used it to clean fish by river, carve spoons, chop small kindling and prepare meals. It proved dependable and pleasant to handle. If you want a knife with history, quality steel, and beautiful wood this is one to get before they run out.
