We have built and repaired many knives over the years and know what a blade blank must provide. The Helle Blade Black is a blade blank made from layered steel, weighing 40 g, with blade length 110 mm and overall length 217 mm. It has a black finish and is ideal for mounting your own handle.

This blank is excellent for makers who want a base to build a knife suited to their style or needs. It is not usable as a full knife until handle and sheath are added.

I’ve handled this blade blank on my bench to test its material and feel. The layered steel construction offers strength and edge retention. The black finish adds a rugged look and some protection though it may wear off with heavy use or polishing. With blade length of 110 mm and overall length of 217 mm it gives good reach for hunting or outdoor use when you complete the knife.

Because the blank is just the blade you will need to choose handle material, secure the tang firmly, and design a sheath to protect both blade and user. For finishing work I recommend optional heat treatment or sealant on the finish if you expect heavy moisture or rust risks.
