We have carried the Skeletool SX during snowcraft tasks and on cold-weather gear checks. It is a multi-tool with 8 tools including 420HC combo blade, bit driver, diamond-coated file; weighs about 142 g. It excels with its DLC coating and Zytel inserts which resist rust and grip cold hands. Seasonal note: in winter wet snow, dry thoroughly and apply a light oil to prevent blade binding. From my experience it saved me when binding screws loosened in sub-zero conditions.

Description
I tested the Leatherman Skeletool SX in cold, wet, and rough alpine conditions. The 420HC stainless steel blade holds up well to ice chiseling and rope cutting, though it does require touch-ups more often than higher alloy steels under heavy use. The bit driver is robust and holds standard bits, which helps when you don’t have a full toolset. The diamond-coated file is useful for quick edge renewals on ski edges or tools. The combination of stainless steel frame with durable DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating and Zytel inserts gives good corrosion resistance and a comfortable grip even with gloves. Closed length is 100 mm, which fits into many jacket pockets; it feels solid in hand despite its lighter weight of ~142 g.
Since it's lighter and more compact, you trade off some leverage compared to full-size multitools in heavy-duty tasks. The pliers are not spring-loaded, so opening them takes both hands in some cases. If you want reliable, moderately strong multi-tool performance with winter/snowboard utility, this is one of the better seasonal picks. Order soon as stock sometimes fluctuates.
