Heavy-duty Gerber machete with dual-edge saw back and Gator Grip for jungle or trail work.

We have used the Gerber Gator Machete Dual Junior many times when facing thick undergrowth. This is a large machete, 500 mm total length, with a 300 mm main blade plus a 380 mm saw on the spine. It uses the Gerber Gator Grip rubber handle to give a sure hold in wet, muddy, or sweaty conditions.

It delivers power and versatility excellent for clearing paths, chopping wood, or cutting through vines. The saw on the back adds utility though makes sharpening more involved, and its size and weight ≈ 450 g make it less convenient for lightweight trekking.

I once used it deep in a rainforest, pulling it through tangled plants: every chop felt confident thanks to the grippy handle and the weight behind the blade.

I like the Dual Junior because it gives me both a machete and a saw in one tool. The 300 mm main blade delivers serious chopping power, and when I need to saw through wood or branches, the 380 mm saw on the back is right there. The rubber Gator Grip handle gives me confidence even with gloves on or when it’s wet I don’t feel it slipping.

Being 500 mm long and weighing about 450 g, it feels substantial in hand. That makes it less ideal for ultralight hikes, but perfect when I know I’ll be doing heavy clearing or forest work. The sheath and adjustable paracord lanyard help with carrying and keeping it safe.

Care is important: keep both the chop-edge and saw clean, sharpen regularly, especially after cutting through moisture or sap. Also dry and oil to avoid rust. When you need real cutting muscle or a tool that can handle both chopping and sawing, this machete offers great value and ruggedness.
