Utility knife by Gerber with TacHide rubber handle built for grip and field comfort.
We have used many utility knives over decades and this Gerber Edge stands out as a reliable tool for everyday cutting tasks. It is a utility folding knife with a replaceable utility blade, spring lock mechanism, and a TacHide rubber handle offering excellent grip. It features a 28 mm blade length, weighs 81 g, with an open length of 154 mm.
I’ve carried this in patchy weather and the handle stayed secure even when wet, though the size makes it less suitable for fine detailed work.

Description
I appreciate tools that are simple, robust, and easy to maintain. The Gerber Edge Utility Knife with Black Rubber (TacHide) handle delivers these virtues. The rubberised handle gives solid purchase in damp or greasy conditions so your hand does not slip. The spring lock lets me swap blades fast without needing a screwdriver. The pocket clip ensures it’s handy in a work belt or bag.
Because it accepts standard or contractor-grade utility blades I can replace them anywhere. The build feels sturdy enough for cutting drywall, opening packaging, trimming carpet, and more. On the flip side, it's not a precision knife: the 28 mm blade and larger handle mean it’s better for rough and heavy cutting than fine detail carving.
Expose yourself to what it can’t do: tight corners, very delicate trimming, or precision scoring are limits. But for tough tasks, this knife is dependable. If you maintain the spring mechanism (keep it clean, light lubrication) it will last many years. Backed by Gerber’s limited lifetime warranty it’s clear they expect this tool to live a long working life.
Don’t wait until you’re on a job without a good cutter this one shows up.
