Bold pocket-cleaver folder by Gerber with D2 steel, Framelock, and Micarta handle for rugged EDC use.
I’ve carried and tested the Gerber Asada Folder Micarta Olive FE over several weeks. The knife is a cleaver-style folder with a D2 tool steel blade, about 76 mm long, using a bold forward choil and full flat grind. It uses a framelock with ball-bearing pivot and Micarta + stainless/aluminum frame construction for both strength and grip.
It excels at chopping, slicing, and heavier everyday tasks, though the wide cleaver shape makes precision work or pocket carry a bit more challenging. In wet or humid weather the blade steel needs more maintenance to avoid staining. I’ve found its balance of rigidity and cutting power impressive when breaking down fibrous materials or kindling.

Description
I’ve spent time using this Asada for camp chores, slicing rope, opening packages, and light baton work. The 76 mm D2 blade with stonewashed finish gives good edge retention, making tougher cutting chores easier. The frame lock, reinforced with an anti-pinch/pinch plate, helps protect the lock from undue wear and makes opening more consistent. The ball bearing pivot gives smooth deployment via the finger flipper.
The olive Micarta front scale feels warm in hand and gives good traction, while the back-frame side (stainless/aluminum) adds structure without too much bulk. Weighing around 133 g the knife carries noticeably but doesn’t fatigue quickly. The closed length of about 108-110 mm makes it big in pocket but still manageable if you choose roomy pants or a clip carry.
For care I clean and oil the pivot and framelock, especially since D2 is semi-tool steel and can rust or stain if left wet. A stropping or fine stone touch-up keeps the edge usable for finer tasks. The cleaver shape is ideal for chopping, but less so for point tasks like piercing or detailed carving. If your intended tasks include those, consider a complementary smaller point-style knife.
All in all, this is a strong knife for outdoor work, camping, trail use, or as a heavy EDC for those who like bold style + function. If you’re deciding, this version with Micarta adds aesthetics + grip over the aluminum versions.
