Opinel Trekking Green

A classic Opinel No. 8 folding pocket knife with Virobloc ring, green beech handle, ideal for hiking and everyday carry.

We have tested the Opinel No. 8 Trekking Green on forest trails and by riversides. This is a folding knife, blade steel is stainless, blade length is 85 mm, overall open length 190 mm, weight 46 g. The stainless blade offers good resistance to rust which makes it low-maintenance outdoors. Its Virobloc locking ring enhances safety when cutting rope or slicing food at campsite.

It excels at light to moderate cutting tasks, though not made for heavy chopping or prying. Having used many Opinel knives, this one stands out for its well balanced handle and dependable lock.

I have carried the Opinel Trekking Green on many treks and during meal prep outdoors. The 85 mm stainless blade holds up well even after exposure to moisture; you need only clean and dry it to keep performance high. The beech wood handle painted green feels comfortable in hand and gives decent grip, though it can become slippery when wetgood to keep dry or hold by the spine. The Virobloc ring lock is simple but effective: twist-to-lock open or closed keeps the blade stable during use and safe during carry. At 190 mm overall when open, it gives enough leverage for tasks like cutting kindling, preparing food, or carving. The weight of 46 g keeps it light enough not to be a burden on long walks.

For me, one of its best moments was slicing fresh bread by a lake while backpacking; blade felt precise and solid. If you want a reliable companion knife with character and function, this is one to add to your gear soon.
