I have carried the Morakniv 162 Hook / Spoon Knife on carving excursions, especially when making cups, bowls, or more complex hollow shapes. The double-edge means I can work from either side, which is helpful when the grain or the position of the wood favors a push or pull motion. The internal curve (radius) is quite tight compared to other hook knives I have used, letting me get into deeper bowls without having to sacrifice safety or control.
The blade is stainless steel (Swedish) and holds a good edge, is reasonably corrosion-resistant, though with stainless steel you still want to wipe, dry, and oil it occasionally. The handle is oiled birch comfortable, traditional, with a warm feel. The leather sheath protects the edge well.
This knife is less ideal for flat carving or detail work outside of curved hollows. If your carving is mostly flat surface work, you will want a different style. But for bowl, spoon, kuksa carving, this one performs very well. If you want to start deep carving or craft cups/spoons regularly, it’s worth picking up while stock lasts.
