A long-utility puukko marrying Finnish heritage and camp readiness.

This fixed-blade camp/utility puukko features high-carbon steel (hardened ~57–58 HRC) and a curly birch handle capped with a hound-dog pommel. The 100 mm blade delivers a balance of reach and control ideal for camp chores, carving, and food prep.

We favor it for outdoorsmen and collectors who want both function and distinctive style. We especially like how the lacquered birch retains warmth in cold hands. Accompanied by a stamped leather sheath with D-ring loop, it is both a working tool and conversation piece.

This Hound Dog Knife (called “Ajokoira / Hound Dog” in Iisakki Järvenpää’s lineup) exemplifies timeless Scandinavian utility. It’s built for those who expect their tools to perform in real wilderness. The long blade gives reach without sacrificing precision. In hand it feels poised—neither clumsy nor delicate.

I trust this knife in camp because it combines dependable design with subtle artistry. The scandi grind slices clean, the spine gives controlled pressure, and the steel is easy to re-sharpen in field settings. It isn’t meant for heavy chopping, but for versatile camp tasks it shines.

On multi-day treks I have used it for battening kindling, slicing vegetables, trimming ropes, and even light game prep. If you seek a long utilitarian blade that also carries heritage and character, this Hound Dog belongs in your pack.
