I have carried the Helle Alden on several trips now. The Sandvik 12C27 steel keeps a fine edge and is easy to maintain. I notice that the steel has good corrosion resistance and works well in wet conditions, though it is not as stainless as premium high alloy steels. The curly birch handle gives a warm and secure grip but does need care with oiling to keep its finish and avoid cracks over time.
With a total length of 230 mm and blade length of 106 mm the knife offers good reach and control. The weight of 135 g is light enough for carry yet gives enough heft for skinning and cutting. The leather sheath it comes with is soft and well made, but like all leather it should be dried properly if wet to avoid stiffness or mildew.
I have used it for dressing game, preparing kindling and carving tent pegs. It performs well across these tasks. For heavy chopping or splitting logs you will want a larger axe.
If you want a reliable knife with strong steel, a fine handle and traditional style the Helle Alden is a choice worth making while it is available.
