I like gear that pulls double duty without becoming a burden in the woods. The Randy Newberg EBS does exactly that. The three task-specific 440C blades let me adapt to skinning, caping, or general breakdown work without carrying separate tools. The skeletonized handle keeps weight down yet remains strong thanks to full-tang construction. The Quiet Carry blade box is clever: the handle nests into it so the whole kit is more compact and less noisy in a pack.
The blade change system called Split Sec Tech is tool-less, letting me swap blades cleanly in the field. The satin finish on the blades helps with cleaning, and the retroreflective elements on the handle/box help locate it if dropped at dusk. It is not ultra-slim: the set-up is more work-oriented than stealth-oriented. But when you’re doing serious harvest work or extended hunts, the trade-off for versatility and durability is worth it.
Take care by keeping the blades dry when not in use, sharpening using a stone or guided system, and periodically checking the locking mechanism in the Split Sec Tech for wear. If you get one now you’ll see why many hunters prefer this you’ll wonder how you did without that multi-blade flexibility in the field.
