I’ve used many folding knives over the decades and this Gerber Pledge stands out for balancing blade length, weight, and usefulness in daily environments. The 7Cr17MoV steel offers a good mix of edge retention, corrosion resistance, and easy sharpening. The reverse tanto blade gives a reinforced tip for piercing tasks while the long straight section of the edge is useful for clean slicing. The black oxide or bead-blast finish helps reduce glare and provides extra protection against rust.
The liner lock feels secure when open. I tested twisting and pressing without closing it and got no wiggle or failure, so it inspires confidence. The GFN (glass-filled nylon) handle is textured, allowing a better grip even when wet or greasy. Reversible thumb stud and pocket clip make it comfortable whether one is right- or left-handed. It’s not ultra thick, so slipping into the pocket is easy; you might forget you have it until you need it.
On the flip side, the blade is relatively thin which means heavy chores batoning or prying are not its strength. Also, the tip is strong but not designed for exaggerated leverage. If carrying this, keep it well oiled and clean; finish coatings only delay corrosion, they don’t stop it completely.
If you want a reliable EDC folder that looks good, feels solid, and won’t weigh you down, this is one to consider now great value for what it offers.
